How the lessons are structured -
"Creative Clinic":

You must login before you can access this page

We will learn more about the 'Classroom' page later (See 'Your Classroom'). Please click on the 'Lesson tab' (in the top right-hand corner of the screen).

Clicking on the 'Lesson' tab will bring you to the page below. As you can see on the left, you can find lessons to suit your needs, but we will get to that later (See 'Lesson Search Engine'). On the right is a list of all the different types of lessons available: Comprehension, Creative Clinic, General Clinic, Written, and Listening (and the grammar newsletters and pronunciation guides). By the right of each title is the number of lessons of that type that are available in the archive. Let's click on "Creative Clinic"...

"Creative Clinic" is very interactive and depends very much on the participation of students. You can choose to write about any topic or submit any paragraph that you can find (all upto 400 words) and submit it to Learn Articulate English, or you can look at what other students have sent in and try to re-write it with different words and phrases. Administrators decide what to post in the Creative Clinic (with corrections if necessary). It's a really good opportunity to test yourself and grow as a student. Be free and express yourself as you want.

We'll start by learning how to send work to Learn Articulate English...

When you click on "Creative Clinic" the 'master page' for that type of lesson (picture on the left). This page contains a list of all the "Creative Clinic " lessons in the archive, in date order (the most recent first). On the left is the lesson ID number (meaning 'identification' number). Every lesson in the archive has a unique number so that you can find it easily (See 'Lesson Search Engine'). In the next column are all the titles of all the lessons. By searching the newsletters for that week you will find more information about what is in the lesson. In the next column is the date that the lesson was posted on the website by an administrator. The next column tells you the lesson type (in this case "Creative Clinic") and the last column tells you how much it will cost to buy in Credits. If the lesson is posted during your time as a member, it will be free. You need to click on the title of the lesson to continue to the next page.

Click on "Make a submission" to start the process.

When you have clicked on "Make a submission" you will be taken to the "Creative Clinic Submission" screen (on the right). Enter your text (or 'copy and paste' it from elsewhere) and click on "Submit Piece".

To the right is a short piece of text written by a student called Michael. The text is automatically sent to the administrator when you click on "Submit Piece".

When you click on "Submit Piece" you will see the message below. You will then be taken back to the "Creative Clinic" master screen after a few seconds.

Now we have learnt how to send in our own work, let's learn how to look at other students' work and re-write it.

On the "Creative Clinic master page" (on the left) click on the lesson title.

On the right is the 'lesson purchase page'. You will only see this if you are trying to access a lesson that wasn't posted during your time as a member of Learn Articulate English. To buy the lesson you need to click on "Purchase" at the bottom-right of the page.

When you click on "Purchase" you will be taken to the 'purchase confirmation page'.

Click on "Purchase Lesson" to confirm you want to buy the lesson.

If it's all gone right you will be shown this confirmation message for a few seconds before the lesson appears.

At the bottom of the page you will see students' work that has been posted by the administrator.

On the left we see Michael's work again.

If you would like to test your English and try to write an alternative (i.e. by re-writing the text with similar words and phrases) click on "Post a response".

The administrator will also write an alternative for each topic, as well as correcting every submission - this way every student will benefit. Below is an administrator response for Michael's text. Besides sending in alternatives you can, as always, ask questions to help you understand the principles of English found in the text.

As you can see from the text above, the administrator has expressed the text in a different way - but the meaning is the same. He has also explained an expression and a word that some students might not recognise. Sometimes there are a number of ways that paragraphs and sentences can be expressed.

The "Creative Clinic " is your chance to really understand text, learn what you want to learn and find ways of expressing yourself as much as you want. So long as the lesson is still "active" you can keep sending in alternative pieces of text, asking questions and learning from the lesson by participation a little at a time. When the lesson is "archived" it means the administrator is no longer posting work and questions from the students; it also means that the lesson is full and complete and students will now be able to review all the principles of the lesson at once.
